Obituary for Pieter de van der Schueren

PIETER JAN JOZEF DE VAN DER SCHUEREN July 3, 1927 – July 25, 2019

“Opa” passed away at the Village of Taunton Mills in Whitby on July 25th, 2019 at the age of 92 with Miebeth, his wife of 64 years at his side leaving 7 children/spouses and 20 grand children.

Pieter was one of a family of 6 siblings from the Netherlands (Karel, Frits, Pieter, Liesbeth, Norbert, Patricia).
Much loved father/father-in-law of Marc and Suzanne (Seattle), Paul and Heather (Richmond Hill), Mike and Mary (Stittsville), Elsbeth and Dean (Milton), Anne and Tim (Whitby), Patricia and Stephan (Uxbridge) and Maria and Brian (Scarborough). Grandfather of Will, Cole, John (Nicole), Eric, Juliana, Marika, Catherine, Sean, Kevin, Katrien, Tess, Grady, Jessica, Stuart, Nicole, Anne-Marie, Benjamin, Jake, Sophie and Claire.
Pieter and Miebeth immigrated to Canada in 1957 and after a brief time living in Toronto, settled in Clarkson. The family grew up in the community where Pieter held various jobs but primarily worked in Real Estate until his retirement.

Pieter believed it was important to give back to the community and over the years was involved with many organizations including the Rotary Club, YMCA, St. Christopher Parish, the Red Cross and the Canadian Cancer Society.

His happiest times were spent with family at the cottage at Sandy Lake – a place where he could relax, read, sail, and have his daily “borreltje” all done while wearing his famous pink cottage shirt. He was up early and played endless hours of cards with his kids, while mom could relax with a book.

His love for his children also extended to his 20 grandchildren who all held a very special place in his heart. He was always interested in their many activities and got great joy from hearing all of their accomplishments.
“CHEERIO” to Pieter who had a very long and happy life and will be greatly missed by all but especially his loving wife Miebeth.
