Jaqui and David,

I have been thinking about you, your family all morning. The pictures are wonderful. My thoughts with you, your parents achieved so much together and clearly their wonderful children, grand-children brought them a lot of joy and happiness throughout their lives.

I met Trevor through Cousin Alison who fell in love with him.

My family is from the Eastern Caribbean and my parents, who were strong supporters of the West Indies Federation, saw Jamaica as central to the leadership of this new, young, soon to be independent Caribbean collective in the person of Norman Manley, then Premier of Jamaica. So we moved there in 1956. Alison came a few years later and lived with us while she studied at UWI.

Well, we lost the Federation but gained Trevor Parchment. I can speak for my parents and my brother that the endearments by which people called him, ‘Parchie’, ‘Parch’, ‘Parcharch’ and so on, carried with them merely a hint of the deep affection and respect he inspired.

Trevor and Alison had an intelligent marriage. By that I mean that they would find ways to communicate their way through the hardships life threw at them. They were good at marriage and their well tried confidence in each other and mutual trust enriched their companionship. Alison’s death was devastating to Jaqui and David, painful for all of us. Trevor stood directly in its path and took the full force of her loss. Son, brother, friend, husband, father — gentleman to the end.

It would do him a disservice not to mention Trevor’s idiosyncrasies. He was particular about details. So for example, if he were to clean up the work area floor after doing some carpentry (I recall him making attractive and useful tables for a drawing room) his sweeping and mopping up operations were thorough in the extreme. If he tidied a kitchen cupboard, every object had a perfect location — in his view anyway.

I think Trevor was, more than many people, acutely conscious of relationships. He cared deeply about the interconnective issue between himself and his family, his students, his friends and he gave much of himself emotionally to that cause and in so doing enriched his world and ours.

Uncle Trev was very special to all of us and will be forever missed. While we will not be able to attend the celebration of his life on May 25th, we will be there in spirit. Jaqui and Dave will remain close in our thoughts.
Rest peacefully Uncle Trev, you have earned it!
With all our love,

Uncle Trevor was a dear friend of mine, who like Auntie Alison, were also multi-generational family friends. They were so kind to both my sister Peta-Gaye & I when we lived in Canada, and often included us in their significant celebratory events.

Their gracious hospitality & concern for our well being, will not be forgotten by us.

May your soul rest in peace Uncle Trevor.
You are no doubt in the company of your beloved wife Alison.

Until we meet again...good bye.

With many condolences to Jaqui, David, Kim, Jacob & Jordan, as well as his sister Pat, other siblings, relatives & friends.

God Bless,

KATRINA JOHNSON
