Condolences

Condolence From: Alexandra Hogg
Condolence: I lived next to Bob and Mary Jean growing up in the early 90s to about 2004. Many of my childhood memories include Bob's (or Mary Jean's??) Volkswagon Beetle with the ever-changing designs parked out front and Bob and Mary Jean relaxing on the patio in the back, always friendly and happy to say hello. On some occasions I would sit with them on the patio or inside their back sunroom where Bob told me stories about his time serving as a younger man, as much as can be appropriately said to a child I suppose. I still think of them every Rememberance day as a now-28-year-old and always hoped they were well. I believe Bob was somebody who enjoyed cigars (from what I can recall) and I have distinct memories of the sweet smell of cigars and stories of his younger days. I'm sad to find Bob's obituary here today but I can see from all of the articles that he was cherished outside of our little block as well. Rest in Peace, both Bob and Mary Jane.

Condolence: My family and I have many great memories of spending time with Bob and Mary Jean while we were members of the Oshawa Flying Club and 420 Wing RCAF Association. Bob was a dedicated member of these organizations, and promoted flying for enjoyment, and trips, which many of us participated in. We always enjoyed spending time with them and meeting members of their family. Bob's sense of humour was known to all who spent time with him.
Bob and Mary Jean were always willing to play the parts of Santa Claus and Mrs. Santa at many children's Christmas parties at the airport and other locations. I know how much this meant to the children who attended.
I would like to express my deepest condolences to everyone in the Heron family for the loss of a great man.

Condolence From: Marjorie and Des Newman
Condolence: Our deepest sympathy goes out to all of the Heron family.
We have known Bob and Mary Jean for more than 50 years and we have admired them for all of the time and treasure they have given to Brooklin and to Whitby and to Canada. Bob's service to the Canadian Forces during the Second World War and his many services to his community especially to the Royal Canadian Legion in Brooklin and as a volunteer fireman and as a friend and advocate of the farming community will always be remembered. To everyone he was a kind and generous man, a loving husband and father, a thoughtful and caring protector of his family. In one word, an icon in his community. Thank you Bob for all you have done for us.
Now that his work is done, may God now find for Bob a peaceful resting place. Marjorie and Des Newman.

Condolence From: Eric and Jennifer Bowman
Condolence: We all remember going to the DavidBrown/International dealership in the heart of Brooklin. Both our families ( Best and Bowman) purchased equipment from Bob and he always drove a hard deal. But we all went back! He was very kind to young farmers starting out and we witnessed this generosity in our dealings with Bob. It was a sad day when the Heron's - Bob Heron Equipment - retired.
Our sympathy goes out to the family. We often commented how we missed them when we passed the Thickson/Winchester intersection.

Condolence: Working for the Heron's was not a job, but like being part of the family. The best job I ever had and when it was time to move on Bob and Mary Jean helped me with that also. I walked into the original shop in Brooklin on a Friday looking for a job and Bob hired me on the spot. I would still be there if the Heron's decided not to retire so I had to move on for myself as they spoiled me to the point I couldn't work for anyone else. Rest in piece "Yogi" and our heart goes out to the family at this trying time.
