Obituary for Fred A. Ney

Ney, Fred A.

Passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday July 24th, 2016 at the age of 86. Dearly loved husband of Annegret for 53 years.

Wonderful father of Stephanie and father-in-law of Colin. Cherished Opa of Jennifer, William, Victoria and Katherine. Fondly remembered by family and friends in Canada and Germany.

Born in Dortmund, Germany on April 21, 1930 to Friedrich and Charlotte Elisabeth Ney.
Fred grew up in Asseln but also spent time at his grandmother’s farm in Huenxe with his many cousins.
In 1943 he was evacuated to Buehl-Baden returning back to Asseln in 1945 when the war ended.
Fred took an apprenticeship with his father in the hair salon for the next 2 years. After finishing high school, he took another apprenticeship for Industrial Business Administration and was awarded a diploma in 1954, and was to take a position at Orenstein & Koppel Machinenbau. Instead Fred boarded the Seven Seas and headed for Canada.

In 1963 he joined The Bank of Nova Scotia as a Scotia Plan Officer, and in 1969 was made a Bank Manager, a position he kept until his early retirement in 1987.

In his retirement, Fred built his dream home on Lake Scugog. For the last few years Anne and Fred have been enjoying their house, their family, and their life.

Visitation at Barnes Memorial Funeral Home, 5295 Thickson Rd. N Whitby from 2:30 p.m. Saturday (July 30th) until time of celebration service in the Barnes Chapel Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.

Flowers are welcome or if you choose, memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
