Obituary for Esmé Margaret Lyons (Nanton)

Lyons, Esmé Margaret (nee Nanton)
Passed away Wednesday July 4th, 2018 at the age of 87; her family holding her hands, until she was ready to let go.
Born in Winnipeg Manitoba, she attended Rupert’s Land Ladies College and then off to a brief stint at the university of Manitoba, where she met and fell in love with the love of her life. Summers were spent at the family cottage on Lake of the Woods, where Esmé was an avid participant in all of the activities. She lived in London after the war with her aunt and crossed the ocean on a ship that had been christened by her grandmother. She lived in Montreal for a time and worked at the Neurological institute. She worked for TWA before it was Air Canada. She had an interesting and rich life, all before the age of 25.
Moving to Mississauga with her husband and family, when it was still called Cooksville, she settled in to her new home. She worked for the Mississauga News for a time and also the Ontario Lottery Corporation delivering lottery tickets to the stores and businesses who sold them. She made wonderful new lifelong friends, but her Winnipeg family, friends and roots would always remain strong.
Esmé was very artistic, although she would never say she was. She painted very well, crafted pottery and did original ceramics. She sewed beautifully and not only made her creations unique, she made clothes for her daughter, including dolls and stuffed animals as required. Her eye for style and fashion were amazing and this stayed with her throughout her life.
Her memories may have been stolen from her little by little, but her family helped her to remember and worked to keep her history alive. She’s free now. Her memories have been restored, her body has been restored and she is with her husband and son. She is at peace.
Pre-deceased by her loving husband Donald H. Lyons (1988)
Much loved mother of Margot Weir (late John) of Whitby and Douglas H. Lyons of Toronto.
Pre-deceased by her son Bradley Edward Lyons (2017). Survived by her daughter-in-law Clare Lyons of Michigan.
Cherished grandma zoo of Lydia, Kristy and her husband Dan, Ben and his partner Anthy, Stewart and his fiancé Rachel.
Great Grandmother of Cameron, William, Noah and Spencer.
Pre-deceased by her brothers Gus Nanton, Hugh Nanton and her sister Diana Nanton.

Private family services have been entrusted to Barnes Memorial Funeral Home, 5295 Thickson Rd. N. Whitby.
