April 26, 1937 – February 16, 2017

Died suddenly at St. Michael’s Hospital Toronto following cardiovascular surgery. Son of the late Dorothy Alma (nee Walker) and Leslie Reginald Parkes.

Husband of Margaret (Migz) nee Rodgers (married August 1972)

Brother of Dorothy Blair. Predeceased by parents and older brother Leslie Parkes.

Born in Oshawa, Don was a long time resident of Brooklin. Together with his wife and sister, he leaves 5 nephews and nieces and their families, as well as his friends.

A high school music teacher in several boards of education-Durham, Scarborough and Toronto. Don was a founding member of the Oshawa Symphony Orchestra (Viola).

A career change into driver education led to becoming a master driver instructor with Young Drivers of Canada until retirement.

In retirement, Don was involved in various hobbies, Genealogy (OGS Durham Region Branch), computers, (Durham Personal Computer Users Club), Web master for the Basenji Club of Canada and Mafaili Ya Basenji), model railroads (Pine Ridge Railroaders), and dog events with his loved Basenjis, especially M’Tunza. His love of classical music endured and he particularly enjoyed the LiveInHD cinema presentations from the TheMet opera.

A celebration reception will be held at Barnes Memorial Funeral Home, 5295 Thickson Rd. N. Whitby on Sunday February 26th. Friends and family are invited to visit anytime between 2:00 and 4:00 p.m. to share memories of Don.
