Obituary for Peter Ian Jackson

With profound sadness, we announce the sudden passing of Peter Jackson, at his home in Oshawa on Monday, October 31, 2016, at the age of 69.

Peter was deeply loved by his wife, Aileen Ashman, his mother Joan Jackson, father Ian Jackson (deceased), daughter Meridith Jackson (husband David Maguire) and their children Zach, Riley and Robbie, and son Will Jackson (wife Jacquie) and their son Carter.

Peter will also be badly missed by his sister Joanne Radford (husband Steve) and their children Matt (wife Fran, children Ian, Luke and Vanessa), Lindsey Novak (husband Stephen, children Isabel and Jameson) and Christopher. Peter’s presence will also be missed by all of the members of the Ashman family, and by his closest friend, Richard Walker and wife Val Leski.

Peter’s passion was motorsport. Peter was a long time member of the amateur motorsport community in Ontario and Winnipeg, having organized, participated in and officiated at many race, ice race, autoslalom and other motorsport events. A longtime member of Oshawa Motor Sport Club (OMSC) and Vintage Automobile Racing Association of Canada (VARAC), Peter served on the Board of Directors of OMSC and of Canadian Automobile Sport Clubs – Ontario Region (CASC-OR), the Ontario Region race sanctioning body. Peter was well-known by many people in the race community, and his absence at the events will be noticed.

Peter was a social and outgoing person, always making new friends and contributing his support to assist whenever and wherever he could. In recent years, despite struggling with the early symptoms of Parkinsonism, Peter and Aileen traveled extensively with family and friends. He was bigger than life in all activities in which he gave his everything.

He will be missed, but not forgotten.

Visitation will be held at Barnes Memorial Funeral Home at 5295 Thickson Road N., Whitby, Ontario from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 3, 2016, with a Celebration of Peter’s life at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, November 4, 2016, reception to follow.

In memory of Peter, and in lieu of flowers, donations to Parkinson Foundation Canada or Second Chance Wildlife Sanctuary for cats would be greatly appreciated.
