Obituary for John Gordon "Jack" Nesbitt

John Gordon (Jack) Nesbitt – Following a brief illness, and in the presence of his family, Jack peacefully passed into eternal rest at home on June 29 at 88 years of age.

Devoted husband for 66 years to his elementary school sweetheart Wilhelmina ‘Willie’ De Yonge. He was a constant source of love, support and guidance to his three children, John ‘Wally’, Kathleen Sivell (Lance Lovelock) and Edward ‘Ted’ (Tracee). Cherished Papa to his grandchildren David, Jeffrey, Kimberlee and Willem. Loved uncle to his nieces and nephews.

Born and raised on a farm near Brooklin, ON to Ernest and Harriet-Jane, Jack was predeceased by his stepsister Mildred and brother William.

Jack graduated from the University of Guelph in 1950. Through the years his passion for knowledge and his gift of sharing eventually led him from industry into a position at Courtice Secondary School where he taught for 25 years, spending many late evenings and weekends coaching his students in both football and basketball.

Throughout his life, he took great delight spending time with family, friends and his trusty dogs. Jack was a faithful and active member of Columbus Community United Church.

An intelligent conversationalist, his easy smile and talent for lighthearted debate and banter will be missed by all who were blessed to have known him.

As per his wishes, there will be no funeral service. A Celebration of Jack’s life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Columbus Community United Church or to a charity of your choice will be gratefully appreciated.
