Life Story for Ewen Lorne Ferguson

Ewen Lorne Ferguson

Ewen was born September 29, 1934 in Whitby, the second child of John & Helen Ferguson and a younger brother for sister Mary.

Ewen attended elementary & high school in Whitby, and then spent several years travelling – circumnavigating the world. A few months after returning home, he met Dorothy, who became the love of his life. They married several years later and shared 51 happy fulfilling years together. Their loving relationship was enhanced when another love came into both of their lives, their daughter, Andrea. Ewen deeply loved and was very proud of Dorothy & Andrea, always encouraging and supporting them as they both pursued professional careers.

And Ewen himself had a successful business career – first in management at Southam Business Publications, and then he was Founder & President of Ferguson Publishing, a company he successfully operated for some 25 years. Ferguson Publishing included several niche publications geared to the Canadian construction industry.

However it wasn't all work for Ewen – he enjoyed travelling, most particularly in his own plane. Indeed, Ewen identified flying as one of the most enjoyable pastimes he pursued during his lifetime, and he obtained great pleasure and peace flying in the Canadian & US skies. He shared this love with Andrea & Dorothy, who also became pilots, and also with his son-in-law, Stephen, another pilot.

Ewen often expressed sincere gratitude for what he saw as the many blessings that he experienced during his life, be they family, friends, colleagues or opportunities. Always positive and a real 'gentle man', when I think of Ewen words such as sincere, loving, thoughtful, kind & generous, loyal, trustworthy, intelligent all come to mind.

During the past one and a half years he bravely soldiered on despite repeated health setbacks, always trying to beat the challenges that Parkinson's presented. May he now rest in peace.
